Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania" Kicks off the first film in Phase Five of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and features the return of Scott Lang/-Pym-van-Dyne family getting sucked into the subatomic Quantum Realm after a laboratory mishap.They wake only to discover that it is a richly populated micro-universe under the dictatorship of a fellow stranded being known ‘Kang the Conqueror’, played with great gusto and maniacal malice by Jonathan Majors. It’s up to the Scott ( Paul Rudd)and the Pym Van Dyne family to free the populace and free them from Kang and stop his reign from spreading to other multi-verses, including our own. So what is the verdict? It all sounds promising, yes? Well, Majors is the highlight here, (with a performance that makes him a decent enough foe,but the main inescapable fault is that this is an epic story that simply is not the right fit for an ‘Ant-Man story’. Previous entries relied on a small grounded charm of that made it standout from all the other usual Marvel entries, and as visually beautiful this epic ‘Star wars-ish’ scale story is , it doesn’t fit with Scott Lang’s (or Rudd’s subtle sensibility) whose comedy feels oddly out of place,in this overblown Universe spanning plot , that we have frankly already done already. Performances, and visuals are good, but at such breakneck speed ,it all feels forced and contrived and flat.Also as this threat is largely wrapped up at the end of the running time, save for a couple of end credit scenes that ,hope to negate that,it all seems a little rushed in pacing. With this spearheading the next of Marvel's phase direction it seems like over familiar and choppy waters indeed, which is worrying.
