REVIEW
Barbie emerges from a gleaming world brimming with joy, radiance, and an abundance of vibrant pink. Rights where women are now truly equal to men in every aspect of life and even more so. With an army of adoring toy boys or (Kens ) who live to serve and adore their counterpoint Barbies, who have an impressive range of careers and infinite wardrobe accessories with endless parties. So why does one morning one Barbie ( Margot Robbie) wake up in her 'Dreamhouse' with a sudden attack of existential angst. The answer to her woes is to seek out the girl in the real world whose real world doubts and fears have bled into her world .So Barbie begins a journey with a Ken (Ryan gosling) to the 'real world' however , the real world provides a lot of life lessons , to both Ken and Barbie as to the unequal powerplay of the sexes of real life, which becomes a rude awakening for both of them and threatens to bring in changes to the dynamic of both worlds. Rich with satirical digs with an inspired cast including Will Ferrell and as Mattel (CEO) on hilarious manic form, and Kate McKinnon as a sage ‘Weird’ Barbie ,it's a movie that balances nostalgia and the realities of a global brand imaging .In what could have been a simple toy merchandising commercial is seeded
with some barbed shots of the reality of the human condition. With some song and dance numbers, in exotic locations, scenes thrown in , the sets are well realised , and will delight mothers and daughters with the attention to the Barbieland playsets made real .The satirical swipes tend to get a little repetitive , and slows the pacing at times, but fans of Barbie should be pleased with this revisit to Childhood, with a few life lessons along the way!
