REVIEW
Black Adam is a throw back to an earlier age of DC champions. But a much-needed entry from DC who have had a sparse presence of late on the big screen , as of late. Black Adam himself played by Dwayne Johnson, is reawakened to serve are champion to the Kingdom of Khadaq , to help free them the grips of an oppressive regime. But is he the hero they are expecting? In a Global response the Justice Society led my Doctor Fate (A great likeable turn from Pierce Bronson),Hawkman, , Cyclone, and Atom Smasher are recuited to control this reawakened Super being, but are they even enough to challenge him.
If the plot reads like a very early comics plot from 40 years ago, it is. And it makes no apology for it. It may seem almost a throwback in comic book cinema, with a huge number heroes (who really don't have time for characterisation besides their superpower), and alot of overwhelming computer effects .But despite that it is a fun B Movie, much in the style of 'Shazam!'(2019). Johnson fit the role well, although stoic, does hint at a more human development as the film goes on , as he forms a friendship with young Khadag boy , which leads to the more human and comic highlights in the film. Is it predictable? yes?Any surprises? No.But ,it serves as a foundation for the re-introduction of the greater DC universe.(which if you stay until the mid-credits seems to be the play book here). In short, forgettable ,very silly, but fun.
