REVIEW
In (2018) Black Panther's Chadwick Boseman brought poise and regal charisma with effortless ease to his performance as the title character. The right actor for the right role at the right time. The performance along with a great supporting cast from kid Sister Shuri (Letitia Wright), and Ramonda (Angela Bassett) as King T’Challa's Mother was centrally a family affair, set against a backdrop of legacy and Royal Tradition .Now with 2022's Wakanda Forever and the passing of Boseman, the sequel tackles these threads head on by centring on what happens to a family when dealing with loss. This film is about grief ,Queen Ramonda now assuming throne, and, in the year since her son’s passing, now takes centre stage. We pick up a year on , as Shuri and Ramonda , have to navigate the power vacuum as well as navigating role of the Superpower state of Wakanda on a World stage, that holds global changing technology and mineral resources envied by many. In this climate fellow superpowered kingdom's namely Talokan and its superpowered leader 'Namor' (Tenoch Huerta Mejía) are at odds with Wakanda in keeping Talokan’s existence and shared mineral resources a secret. What follows and a natural confrontation between these nations. With Shuri, raw from grief and conflicted, and wondering who takes on the role of Wakanda's protector as Black Panther. It is the saving grace of the movie ,that the film is able to rely on Bassett's central performance. Who commands the film as grieving mother as well as head ruler of Wakanda. The film has some great set pieces, in the action stakes, although you'll be puzzled as to the logic of their motivations and plot points as you watch it. It takes maybe a little too long pacing wise, to really get into gear in the first half, and the role of central Villain Namor, doesn't really have any of the real menace or focus as Michael B Jordan's villain in the first movie. But the film certainly makes it one of the better Marvel Films for 'Phase 4' to end on.
