REVIEW
Citadel – the newly released spy-themed show , which Amazon has invested a reported $300 million. Notably, it's a production that the Russo Brothers played a significant role in, and Amazon is exceedingly excited about it. To convey the confidence that this series will captivate viewers, Amazon has already greenlit three seasons. Starting 8 years ago, two Citadel spy agents Mason Kane(Richard Madden) and Nadia (Priyanka Chopra Jonas) are on a mission to stop nuclear codes from falling into the wrong hands falls , However things run awry, resulting in the explosion of a train orchestrated by Manticore, (a powerful international criminal organization). Flash forward eight years, and our agents are leading ordinary lives in different urban centers, completely oblivious to their past as a couple of highly skilled agents who perished in the train blast.Kane now has a family but still haunted by dreams of Nadia on that fateful day on the Train blast! We pickup as Manticore gains possession of a case filled with highly confidential information that could potentially lead to the establishment of a new global regime. The surviving members of Citadel assemble to engage in a final battle. Stanley Tucci's character ( who just seems to be having fun at the ridiculousness of it all) is the skilled Citadel agent Bernard Orlick. He locates Kane, takes him and his family, and assigns Kane to fulfil a task that will reunite him with Agent Nadia. Exciting right? Well... The pace is run at a breakneck speed, jumping from one overblown expensive set piece to the next ,But it all seems a desperate a bid to hide its tired Spy plot tropes, we have seen countless times and done better! If it was a comedy pure spoof it might have worked. But it not really a thing that a modern audience can really allow a series to get away with in the wake of From Bourne, or Bond , True Lies, Alias or the mission impossible franchise. It’s a very lightweight spy drama, that has come a few decades too late to the party,a shame for the talent here, who you will have seen in better things , but here, seem to be just going through the motions.
