Halloween Ends

Well, this latest instalment promises much in its title. After so many movies, can the franchise really be put to rest? This can be really be considered the third movie , in its own trilogy time line. Halloween (1978) Halloween Kills (2021) Now with Halloween ends we follow through with a definite conclusion to the mini-saga. Here we rejoin the original lead Laurie Strode ( Jamie Lee Curtis) now grandmother to Allyson (Andi Matichak). Here Laurie has almost made her peace with her past as survivor of the murderous Michael Myers despite the long shadow past events casting it’s shadow over the whole town. In this entry , we follow the town resident Correy Cunningham (Rohan Campbell), who after an unfortunate accident involving an minor in his care, becomes a town pariah. After a series of abuse from the town, he finds himself driven to an unlikely mentor in the shape of Michael Myers , alive and living in the sewers of the town.It’s here that a reign of terror is once again reignited upon the township. Of the recent long-standing horror franchise movies on release this year. This actually explores the nature of victim and perpetrator intra-relationships and the repercussions of violent cycles. It tends to lean away from the supernatural elements of the Myers character as portrayed in previous sequel, and more as a tormented Mentally ill patient. Jamie Lee Curtis is great as always as both survivor and victim and to her past. A lot of the movie centers on the budding love affair between Andi and Correy, and it is only at the end Michael Myers comes to the fore and an inevitable confrontation with Laurie,which as a ‘franchise conclusion’, feels a bit underwhelming to long term fans. But there is some food for thought in this entry along the way,even if fans of Michael Myers might feel a little short changed.
