A Tangled Web of Secrets and Suspicion Based on Alice Feeney’s bestselling novel, His & Hers follows Anna, an Atlanta reporter who reluctantly returns to her small Georgia hometown after an old classmate turns up dead. The investigating detective? Her estranged husband, Jack Harper: who also happened to be sleeping with the victim. What unfolds is a Hitchcockian game of cat and mouse, with both leads harbouring dark secrets and pointing fingers at one another. The premise is undeniably gripping. Each episode peels back layers of deception, shifting perspectives between husband and wife as accusations fly and alibis crumble. For the first few episodes, the mystery maintains a taut, addictive quality that makes it impossible to stop watching. Tessa Thompson and Jon Bernthal Carry the Load The series lives and dies on the chemistry between its two leads, and thankfully, Tessa Thompson and Jon Bernthal deliver. Thompson brings a steely vulnerability to Anna, walking the tightrope between grief and guilt with precision. Bernthal, meanwhile, leans into Jack’s morally ambiguous nature, keeping viewers guessing about his true intentions throughout. Together, they elevate material that occasionally sags under the weight of its own ambition. Their performances inject emotional depth into scenes that might otherwise feel hollow, and their fractured dynamic provides the show’s most compelling moments.

Where It Falls Apart Unfortunately, His & Hers struggles to stick the landing. The final episodes veer into increasingly convoluted territory, piling twist upon twist until the plot loses coherence entirely. By the time the credits roll, the resolution feels more baffling than satisfying, leaving viewers questioning whether the journey was worth the destination. The series also handles weighty themes: sexual assault, bullying, and dementia: with a surprisingly light touch, prioritising shock value over meaningful exploration. Dialogue often lands flat, and character decisions frequently defy logic. There’s an uneven tonal quality throughout, as if the show cannot decide whether it wants to be a pulpy thriller or a sombre drama. The Verdict His & Hers is exactly the kind of Netflix binge that dominates conversations for a week before fading from memory. Thompson and Bernthal make it worth watching, and the early episodes deliver genuine suspense. However, audiences seeking a fully satisfying mystery may find themselves frustrated by its messy conclusion.
