REVIEW
In his opening monologue, Jimmy Kimmel didn't shy away from addressing the controversial incident at last year's Oscars where Will Smith slapped Chris Rock, and how it was dealt with last year. In a comedic manner, he discussed the academy's policies on violence during the show and even introduced a team of famous tough guys who would protect him. “A few of my friends you have to get through first. You are going to have to through the heavyweight champ, Adonis Creed, before you get to me,” as the camera panned to Michael B. Jordan. “You are going to have to do battle with Michelle Yeoh before you get to me. You are going to have to beat “The Mandalorian” before you get to me,” as the camera panned to Pedro Pascal. It was a well written moment for Jimmy to that was needed to clear the air – and the audience was in stitches throughout the entire opening monologue. The audience was thoroughly entertained and found the monologue to be a much-needed lighthearted momentand cleared the air nicely. Highlights of the show was a great emotional speech by Ke huy Quan for best supporting actor Oscar for Everything , everywhere at once.Followed by a a tearful acceptance speech by Jamie Lee Curtis for her best supporting actress win.Other hightlights was a great show stopper of a dance number, 'Naatu, naatu' from the Indian movie 'RRR' these proved signs of things to come as Naatu Naatu, went on to win best Oscar for best original song!'Everything ,everywhere at once' swooped across the board with wins. With its directors Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert winning the best Director ward, and best picture, as well as Michelle Yeoh winning best actress. The other other popular choice proved to be for best actor with Brendan Fraser, winning best actor for the 'The Whale' both who has lost out in the Baftas last month. It proved to be a crowd pleaser in both show and winners. Check out what our 2023 Oscar predictions were in our Oscars & Baftas special podcast special
