REVIEW
Prey is set in the year 1719, and essentially the film opens with a young Native American Comanche woman Naru who wishes to hunt for the respect and honour of her tribe. Interestingly this is a situation where our human character parallels with the Predator she will soon encounter as both wish to hunt for their own reasons. The film's dialogue is spare and makes the film quiet viewing early on, but once the story starts to unfold the viewer is drawn in. The Predator reflects the time period it’s in, with more retro technology and this is a nice touch which is well thought out and adds to the world-building of the storytelling. The breath of fresh air of a new time period setting for the Predator series works wonders in making it feel fresh and something the Terminator and Alien franchises could also benefit from. In fact Prey is more well thought out than any of the Predator sequels since Predator 2, and arguably one of the best films in the franchise after the original one to date. In essence with some thought behind the world-building and storytelling on show here, Prey is the Predator movie viewers have been wanting and hopefully there is more like this to come.
