REVIEW
Nicholas Cage is the immortal vampire Dracula no less, and Nicholas Hoult is 'Renfield'. who has dedicated the last century to serving as Dracula's only familiar. He completes tasks for Dracula during the daylight hours, including finding sources of food and maintaining his cape's cleanliness. In an attempt to alleviate his feelings of remorse, Renfield feeds Dracula with criminals and abusers. However, Dracula has a preference for purity, which creates a dilemma for Renfield who attends a self-help gathering for people who suffer due to codependency. Unfortunately, he is still struggling to resist his authoritative employer. But when a cop (played by Awkwafina) and a crime family (led by boss Shohreh Aghdashloo) enters his life, he is inspired to utilize his Dracula-based abilities for positive purposes. The elements present in this scenario create a perfect recipe for an entertaining, rebellious comedy aimed at mature audiences, reminiscent of shows like 'What We Do in the Shadows '. Whenever Cage appears on screen, the film lights up with a captivating performance as a manipulative and vulnerable vampire. Cage's portrayal is both humorous and malicious, exuding an air of intimidation . Unfortunately, Cage only appears in roughly a quarter of the film, resulting in extended periods of uneventful boredom when not on screen. Coupled with the CGI used to stand in for the more gory shots,it makes for rather anamemic viewing. Shame.
