REVIEW
In the original movie, a Brooklyn teen named Miles Morales (voiced by Shameik Moore) becomes Spider-Man in his own unique universe. However, he soon discovers that multiple other universes also have different versions of the web-slinging superhero. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, the sequel, goes beyond the original. Miles discovers more when he finds out that the Spider-people he has encountered have a state-of-the-art base where they mend the abnormalities in various universes that stray from ‘Cannon’ events in Spiderman fate and as a consequence world history. They do this under the direction of the tough Spider-Man of 2099 (voiced by Oscar Issacs on great form). However things take a twist when Miles true role in these turn of events is not what he expects, coupled a conflict with a multi dimensional nemesis ‘ The Spot ‘(Jason Schwartzman) with plans for revenge against poor Miles. Highlights include encounters a multitude of Spider-Folks, including a London-based anarchic guitar carrying punk version (Daniel Kaluuya) who appears to be ripped from a photocopied poster, and an Indian Spider-Man (Karan Soni) who struts around from a reality where Mumbai and Manhattan are one and the same .Although it becomes amusing to spot the Easter eggs from decades worth of both Spiderman film ,tv and comic book lore. The overall pacing of plot seem to slow in places, with a running time of 2 and half hours, seems too indulgent for a younger audience members , compared the snappy original. Despite being visually stunning and humorous, Across the Spider-Verse lacks a sense of urgency and suffers from both frantic visuals and sluggish exposition pieces. It takes a daunting 50 minutes before Gwen and Miles are reunited, and even longer until they finally reach the headquarters of the Spider-People. Also this ends on a cliff hanger, so is a story with many loose threads, still to go, which could have really tied up instead of stretching over the running time. However more promise is hinted in the next movie, with the return of favourites from the much loved original for a final show down.
