REVIEW
Squid Game is a Korean drama series where individuals who are in debt, are given the opportunity to win a large sum of money by playing games with deadly high stakes.
We follow a selection of individuals who and are approached by a smartly dressed individual who offers them some money to play a simple game, involving two coloured envelopes. They are then given a business card that simply has a phone number and symbols.
The power of this series is that everything is a mystery and it’s absorbing viewing to uncover what will happen, how the prize money will increase and who will have the opportunity to claim it.
The draw is also seeing how different people react when the pressure is on and everything is being wagered.
Fans of The Game with Michael Douglas may find the material here very watchable, or even a comparison to the horror genre Saw which focuses largely on games being a great leveller in the stakes. Perhaps even the UK TV series The Crystal Maze with a much more deadly outcome should the player not succeed.
Very compelling viewing.
