REVIEW
Episode 1 of Season 4 of Stranger Things entitled 'The Hellfire Club' opens with A flashback of Eleven causing death and destruction at the experimental facility that kept her Hawkins lab.
These scenes give the viewer major Akira vibes displaying awesome psychic powers on show.
We then Forward to 1986 and El (Eleven) is being bullied at school by the female section of the popular kids, and ironically Lucas ends up getting in with his male peers due to his performance on the basketball court.
Eleven or “Jane” tries to use her powers on the popular girls but with no effect, will this become important later on when the villains of the series emerge?
Joyce the mother of Will is in the episode receiving a package from Russia with the status of Hooper the sheriff and “father” to Eleven status.
The episode is more heavily focused on the teenagers like Dusty, Lucas, Mike, and the other teenagers and it’s a good intro point for viewers who have either forgotten or skipped some of the events of series 3.
One of the highlights again is seeing Hellfire Club Head Eddie Munson (Hellfire club being a fantasy board game like dungeons and dragons) come face to face with cheerleader Chrissy Cunnigham’s literal demons.
So the end sequences of this episode really tap into the supernatural horror elements even more so than before.
It’s a catch-up episode with a dark tone,
So basically if you’ve enjoyed everything about Stranger Things so far or are keen to see what all the 80s inspired fuss is about, head on over to Netflix and check it out!
