After three weeks of being the widest release in the land, Mean Girls slips into the third-place slot this week as a newcomer makes its way into theaters. The teen musical comedy has racked up just short of $62 million in its first 20-days at the box office, and has been running neck-and-neck with Jason Statham’s action flick, The Beekeeper in recent days, winning the weekend box office, but slipping to second on the daily charts during the week. A strong hold in its third weekend will allow The Beekeeper to put an end to Mean Girls’ party at the top of the box office chart. The Jason Statham action movie will decline only 14% from last weekend, with MGM projecting a $7.4-million weekend—just enough to eclipse Mean Girls’ expected $7.3 million.

Substantial expansions by Oscar hopefuls and a Jenna Ortega/Martin Freeman psychological thriller probably won’t be enough to topple Mean Girls from the top of the box office chart this weekend. In fact, we will see the same top five as last weekend and the weekend before, unless something performs much better than expected.

This week looks to be a near replay of last week as the winter doldrums continue. Only one new release makes its way into more than 100 theaters this week and should be no match for the current contenders. After two weeks on the big screen, Mean Girls has earned nearly $53 million from domestic showings, edging out its closest rival, The Beekeeper, at the box office for the majority of its run. The film has also taken in a respectable $16 million overseas for a global take of $69 million. This week it does drop locations, but still holds
