After two weeks at the domestic box office, the juggernaut that is Barbie is still piling up impressive numbers on a daily basis, earning the film just short of $400 million in North America alone, while taking in well over $400 million from international markets. Weekend projections: Barbie has a spectacular hold to earn $93 million on second weekend

Barbie will earn a spectacular $93 million in its second weekend in theaters, according to Warner Bros.’ weekend projection. If that number holds, it will be the 7th-biggest 2nd weekend for a movie in history, just a shade ahead of The Super Mario Bros. Movie’s $92.3 million. Oppenheimer is no slouch either. It should sit somewhere around 80th place on that chart when the final numbers are in, ahead of the likes of Spider-Man: Far From Home. With two juggernauts dominating theaters, Haunted Mansion is having a tough time, and counts as another miss for Disney.

Weekend predictions: Barbie shooting for $80-million-plus second weekend

All eyes remain on Barbie this weekend as it attempts to follow up its opening weekend, the 20th-best of all time, with something in the top 20 second weekends of all time. Based on how it’s been doing during the week, that seems like a good bet. It’ll have a bit of competition from Haunted Mansion this time around though, and perhaps more people will choose to watch Barbie or Oppenheimer this weekend, rather than both together. Even at the low end though, we’re still looking ahead to a very good weekend in theaters.

Weekend predictions: is Barbenheimer set for a $200-million opening?

It looks like it’ll be a close-run thing, but we might be having the biggest weekend at the box office since the pandemic, with Barbie and Oppenheimer in with a shot of hitting $200 million between them, and enough juice from returning films to take us past the $281.6 million earned on the weekend Spider-Man: No Way Home debuted in December, 2021.
