REVIEW
The Gray Man follows Sierra Six (Ryan Gosling), a CIA operative recruited from prison , operating outside the law and strictly off the record. When an attempt to take out a target causes Six to discover his employer’s dark secrets, the CIA puts a bounty on his head. They hire the unhinged mercenary Lloyd Hansen (Chris Evans) to silence (six )once and for all.
In Netflix's most expensive original film to date, (estimated at the $200 million mark) it boasts a top cast and sweeping locations with huge explosive set pieces. Gosling is enigmatically watchable as the mercenary-with-a-heart-of-gold . Evans, too, is a very entertaining as the counterpart to Six, as the delightfully over-the-top deranged Lloyd. In fact, most aspects are very well executed.
However in a film that has a very straightforward premise (that has been done countless times before), coupled with a paper-thin characterisation that wastes a talented cast, and makes for a disappointing cartoon spy thriller, that no amount of action, or set pieces, can help it from turning it ultimately into an empty movie experience!
