REVIEW
The Power Of The Dog on Netflix is a 2021 Western set in the 1920’s adapted from a Novel. Benedict Cumberbatch plays mean rancher Phil whom torments his brother George’s new bride Rose and her son Peter until a new set of circumstances allow a new relationship to occur. The characters are sometimes at odds with one another which helps engage the viewers intrigue particularly in the second half of the film. At other times, they exchange pleasantries, but it’s actually Phil and Peter who strike up a deeper bond. It’s a slow burner, but as the film progresses the viewer gets the sense more is going on that what appears at the surface, however it’s never fully spelled out and this may divide audiences.
