Weekend projections: it’s still Mario’s show, but Evil Dead raises $23.5 million on debut


The Super Mario Bros. Movie will pull in $58.23 million this weekend, according to Universal’s Sunday-morning projection, taking it to $434.3 million in total to date domestically. With another $70.7 million internationally for the weekend, the film now stands at $437.5 million overseas, giving it a monstrous $871.8 million worldwide after three weekends in release. At the opposite end of the cinematic spectrum, Evil Dead Rise will come a strong second this weekend with $23.5 million.
