REVIEW
Paradise is a 2023 Netflix German dystopian thriller in which a society bases value around years of a persons life which can be bought and sold like currency. The wealthy extend their lives and the poor sell their years. Into this backdrop Max Toma is a very successful agent whom can sweet talk people into giving away their years for cold hard cash. Max however sees things very differently when the tables are turned and it directly affects those closest to him. Critics have dubbed this film average but that seems unfair as it’s well executed and interesting enough in the plot twists and turns that the viewer encounters. Love and the worth of youth are central concepts which confront the characters and the viewer, and it’s engaging. The cast is good, the character interaction well executed, and it’s well paced with action and story development. At its core the story is about the human spirit and condition and the lengths that can be gone to in the name of love.
