I Want Your Sex Review – Value for Your Investment

In Gregg Araki’s latest film, twenty-three-year-old Elliot (Cooper Hoffman) becomes a sexual muse for his older boss Erika (Olivia Wilde) in a provocative exploration of Gen Z’s relationship with pleasure. The film opens with chaos, featuring a naked body in a pool, setting the tone for Araki’s boundary-pushing style, reminiscent of his earlier works. Through flashbacks, Elliot recounts his experience with Erika, who hires him as an assistant and invites him into a sexual relationship that blends art and pleasure.

A captivating portrayal unfolds, showcasing Elliot’s earnestness against Erika’s enigmatic character. Their dynamic is visually striking, featuring moments of intimacy that highlight their differing ages and desires. While Elliot embodies a modern liberal man grappling with generational confusion about sex—his character adorned with a “Forever Feminist” sticker—he navigates the complexities of his attraction to Erika and seeks clarity in their connection.

Though the film is a vibrant exploration of youthful sexuality, it ultimately leaves some questions unanswered. The mysterious opening scene leads to an ambiguous conclusion, which, while spirited, falls short of a definitive climax. Still, with Hoffman’s magnetic performance, the film remains an engaging reflection on the struggles of modern relationships, serving as a rallying cry for the young, insecure, and horny, even if it doesn’t deliver a wholly satisfying resolution.
