REVIEW
Daredevil archaeologist Indiana Jones ( Harrison Ford )races against time to retrieve a legendary dial that can change the course of history. Accompanied by his goddaughter, he soon finds himself squaring off against Nazi veteran scientist Jürgen Voller (Mads Mikkelsen),who has designs to change the outcome of World War II. In this Adventure Indy freshly retired soon finds his usual fast-paced groove again with familiar friends, and a brassy god daughter , Helena Shaw (Phoebe Waller-Bridge) both on a race to piece together the Archimedes dial device . The movie leans heavy , on the sure footing of earlier franchise entries, with many action set pieces , and puzzle with some solving scenarios with some dropped in for good measure. With some initial great premises, Starting with an initial flash back sequence ,with a digitally younger looking Ford , gives the audience a look back at the franchises yesteryear glories. As well as some callbacks to earlier adventures, and past acquaintances. With some initial great action premises, including a notably a tuk tuk chase in through Tangier , and an escape from underground tooms in Scilly , there is fun to be had here, however the action sequences here, drag on too long enough and end up overstuffing the movie narrative compared to the tighter directed entries from the Spielberg era. Ford's enigmatic portrayal of Indy firmly anchored the character within the realm of genuine emotions and their subsequent repercussions, despite the fantastical situations around him Phoebe Waller-Bridge's Helena character, who would be the natural successor to take the adventurer mantle for a future instalments, unfortunately lacks the charm and warmth, to make to make her character likeable enough to win audiences over. Also the role of main antagonist Voller, doesn’t quite have the menace promised , with the (Mads Mikkelsen) , character descending into 2 dimensional villainy once his plan is finally revealed towards the film's final act. However the movie does lands enough fan favourite set ups , and puzzle solving scenarios to keep them happy, and a vast improvement over the last entry ‘Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, affording Ford, to make a grand exit and effortless walk away with a movie , with dignity intact , even if it is to hang up his hat and whip one last time.
