REVIEW
Welcome to our Film and tv review dot com review of Mission impossible dead reckoning part one! In the latest Mission Impossible instalment, the covert spy team are pitting their wits and the fate of the world against a formidable force known as ‘The Entity.’; a sentient viral intelligence that is not bound by any physical or moral limitations, being both omnipresent yet evasive, holding complete control over information, and countering every trick and turn the team can think up! Ethan and the team find themselves chased by a variety of agencies as well as villainous adversaries from the past who want a key that will grant control over the Entity! McQuarrie delivers some great set pieces from an airport digital face-mapping classic latex-mask heist, to a Fiat Car chase through the street of Rome, and of course a bike cliff jump with cruise at the wheel. The physical showcases are of course the draw of the franchise. But it has the disadvantage of trying to compete with earlier entries in the series and almost feels a little like mission impossible déjà vu! Also interspersed with repeated exposition dumps does seem to result in an overlong running time at the expense of more character-led moments. Cruise, gives a remarkably more subtle and thoughtful portrayal of Ethan Hunt here, with Mission Impossible regulars joined by Grace, a thief played by Hayley Atwell (of Marvel’s Agent Carter fame) that lends an element of a fun screwball crime caper when on screen together. It may be not one of the strongest entries, with a climax that may be a little over the top at times, but plenty of thrills and spills to satisfy fans of the franchise! Also with hints that a new order of mission-impossible agents may be ushered in with many new faces joining the crew, the future of the franchise shows no sign of slowing down! We give Mission Impossible Dead Reckoning 4 out of 5 Stars!
