Wicked 2: For Good

Wicked 2: For Good – Review Wicked 2: For Good lands as an emotional but uneven conclusion that never fully escapes the structural weaknesses of its source musical’s second act. The film delivers strong chemistry between Cynthia Erivo’s Elphaba and Ariana Grande’s Glinda and a powerful final stretch centred on their friendship, but it struggles with rushed plotting, dangling subplots and some glaring character beats that simply do not land, such as Elphaba’s oddly muted reaction to her sister’s death. Visually and musically, this second part remains impressive, with some smart tweaks to elements like the treatment of animals and Nessa Rose, yet it never quite capitalises on the richer political material available in the original novel. The result is a solid, occasionally moving finale that depends heavily on viewers having watched Part One recently, feeling less like a film that stands on its own and more like the back half of a long TV season.
